How to deal with the humidity effect on laminate flooring?

Adler CulverBy Adler CulverSeptember 30, 2019No Comments3 Mins Read

High humidity can affect various kinds of surfaces. The major effect is found in hardwood and laminate flooring. Laminate flooring Toronto explains to you how high humidity can cause issues to your laminate floors. Further, there are ways to address the issues which you should know. This is because if not done on time can lead to permanent damage. You will have to opt for floor replacement.

Laminate flooring is durable but as it is made of wood fibers, it may face moisture issues. You need to maintain relative humidity.

Let us find out the effects of humidity.

Humidity can go beyond 60 percent. This expands the laminate boards. It leads to noticeable ridges along the seams. On the other hand, boards shrink if humidity falls below 30 percent. So, you may find gaps. You cannot avoid these movements. But you can minimize it.

How?

Laminate flooring Toronto suggests you keep humidity in range of 30 percent to 60 percent. It helps in avoiding gaps and warping. This means you need to leave an expansion gap of 1/4-inch around the perimeter of the floor. It gives proper room for the board to expand. Baseboards are used to cover the gaps.

Also, you should let boards sit in the installation room for two to three days before you install it. During this period, the material gets accustomed to the humidity level. But it is crucial to keep the room temperature at a normal level. You can turn on the central air system to maintain humidity. This process is done as laminate flooring can resist humidity in the air if the proper installation is done.

Another method is to use minimal amounts of liquid when cleaning your flooring. You should never mop the floor using water. Apart from that avoid cleaning floors with water-based products regularly. With these methods, you can reduce the humidity.

However, other than individual treatments, you can also take other steps to reduce the level of humidity in your home. You must opt for a hygrometer. It helps in measuring the humidity levels in your home. Thus, with such instruments, you can determine how much humidity you need to maintain. This is just to monitor the humidity in your home. It is better to use an air conditioner or dehumidifier if the level goes above 60 percent.

To make it less confusing it is suggested to keep humidity levels somewhere between 35 percent and 55 percent. Modify the high and low humidity levels using dehumidifiers or any such instruments.

Hence, laminate floors stay best if the amount of moisture and the humidity in your home is kept in balance. Your laminate flooring stays for long if both are kept at a minimum level.

Floor sanding is a process that is done by using a vacuum cleaner attached to an oscillating floor sander. Floor Sanding Service restores old floors, leveling out surfaces of the floor, reducing noise in homes with pets.
